If your pooch poops all over your
carpet at 11 p.m. and you are out of spot remover,
there are several home-made solutions that just
might take care of the stain. First, without delay
blot up as much of the poop stain as possible using
a soft, light-colour, absorbent cloth like a towel
or napkin. Then mix one teaspoon of a neutral soap
(a mild detergent containing no alkalis or bleaches)
with one cup of warm water. Blot some more with a
white cloth.
Next, use a household ammonia solution to neutralize
the stain.
One tablespoon of household
ammonia and a half cup of water will work fine for
the mixture. Apply household ammonia solution using
a spray bottle and then blot to get rid of extra
moisture. Neutralize more using a white vinegar
solution. Add one-third cup of white household
vinegar with two-thirds cup of water. Again, spray
the white vinegar solution with a bottle and blot to
remove additional moisture.
Keep repeating the process with the neutral
detergent until there is no more stain appearing in
the carpet. Get a bucket of tap water and rinse with
a spray bottle and again blot to remove excess
moisture. Place a pad of paper towels directly over
the stain. Then put a brick on top of the towels and
let dry.
If there are still traces of the stain after drying
and blotting is no longer working, wet the tufts in
the stained area with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Leave
alone to saturate for one hour. Blot and repeat
until stain has disappeared. There is no need to
rinse the peroxide since light causes it to change
back to water. Lastly, apply another pad of paper
towels and weight down with brick. This should take
care of the stain and left-over odours.
